Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring to my first consultation?
For most consultations, it helps to bring any relevant correspondence, documents, or agreements related to your matter. If it is a family matter, things like identification documents, marriage certificates, or existing court orders are a good starting point. For corporate matters, bring your company registration documents and any relevant board or shareholder resolutions. We will guide you if you are unsure what applies to your situation.
How long does a typical family law matter take to resolve?
It depends on the complexity of the case and whether both parties are cooperative. An uncontested divorce where both parties agree on terms can often conclude in four to six months in Malaysia. Contested matters involving custody disputes or asset disagreements may take considerably longer. We will give you a realistic picture after reviewing your specific circumstances.
Can you handle work permits for both SMEs and multinational companies?
Yes. Our immigration services cover companies of all sizes — from small local businesses bringing in their first overseas hire to larger organisations managing multiple employment passes. The process and documentation requirements can differ depending on company type and the applicant's nationality, so we tailor each engagement accordingly.
Is everything I share with you confidential?
Yes. Solicitor-client privilege applies to all communications between you and Claimond. What you share with us during consultations and throughout your engagement is treated with complete discretion and is not disclosed to third parties without your consent, subject to applicable legal obligations.
How does the Corporate Governance Advisory engagement work?
We typically begin with an assessment of your existing governance documentation and practices. From there, we identify gaps and produce a structured report with recommendations. Depending on scope, the engagement runs between four and eight weeks and can include drafting compliance programmes, reviewing board structures, and developing communication protocols for stakeholders.
Do you handle Shariah family law matters as well as civil?
Yes. Our family law team works across both civil and Shariah jurisdictions. We can advise on which court and framework applies to your matter based on your circumstances, and refer or collaborate with registered Shariah practitioners where required.
How are fees structured and when do I pay?
Our fees are set out clearly before work begins. For most matters, we provide a written fee agreement at the start of the engagement. Payment arrangements vary by service — for consultations it is paid per session, while ongoing matters may involve staged billing. We do not charge for the initial intake conversation.
